Cultural Diversity Weekend
Adult Learners’ Week is kicked off with Cultural Diversity Weekend which takes place from 12th - 13th May 2012. We are currently updating out resources for next year, but to give you some inspiration here's what we had to offer in 2011.
During Cultural Diversity Weekend 14-15 may 2011, hundreds of events took place up and down the country to celebrate the powerful benefits of learning about cultural similarities and differences. Activities included music, dance, food, and art, inspiring participants to try something new.
One of the key themes for 2011 was the importance of dance, not only on health and wellbeing, but on self confidence and self esteem.
For years, prior to literacy language and numeracy, dance enabled the non-verbal expression of stories to be shared across generations. Consequently for centuries dance has promoted intergenerational learning and has brought communities together.
Holding dance events during Adult Learners’ Week is a great way to attract new audiences, and promote your dance initiatives. For many, it can often be the first step to realise the benefits of learning, and motivate them to learn more.
