The Tower of London: a History of England

Description

For 1000 years the Tower of London has been intimately involved with English History. It has been a fortress, palace, prison, place of execution, zoo and mint; it has served successive monarchs as a stronghold in the heart of the capital and has been at the epicentre of dramatic, bloody and frequently cruel events. We shall examine the changes to the Tower; the famous inmates, from the Bishop of Durham in 1101 to the future Queen Elizabeth I, Thomas Moore, Anne Boleyn and Jane Grey, Samuel Pepys, Oliver Cromwell, Rudolf Hess and the Kray twins, to name but a few. We will also review the fate of the Princes in the Tower. Tutor: Roger Mannion Venue: Braintree District Museum Hall, Manor Street, Braintree, CM7 3HW Intended for all adults interested in developing their knowledge of history.
