This one-day course is suitable for you if …
You want to gain knowledge and competence in using common features of a personal computer and its operating system. You would like to learn about operating effectively within the desktop environment, manipulating windows and icons, organising and managing files and folders and copying and moving files. You have experience of using a mouse and a computer keyboard.

- Disk drives (hard disk, diskette, CD-ROM, network drives)
- Navigating to drives, folder and files
- File names & conventions
- File types & icons
- File Properties (read-only/read-write)
- The different views of files
- Sorting files/counting specific file types
Organising files
- Selecting files and folders
- Creating new folders and sub-folders (directories/sub-directories)
- Moving files & copying files
- Renaming files
- Deleting/Restoring files
- Emptying Recycle Bin
- Searching for files
- Viewing recently used files
- Compressing/Extracting Files/Folders
The Desktop
- Creating shortcuts/menu items
- Altering items on the start menu
